Teachers who are aflame ignite their students by their contagious enthusiasm
as well as by the attractiveness of the truth they proclaim.
– Father Thomas Dubay, SM –
The Sisters, certified to teach in Elementary and Secondary schools, share the fruits of their prayer and study with their students.
In carrying out their apostolate, the Sisters are well-versed in and apply the wisdom of the Church and its vision for Catholic education. As consecrated persons and educators, the Sisters participate in the formation of the whole person, promoting the development of the physical, moral, and intellectual talents of their students (Code of Canon Law, 795). Tasked with the formation of hearts and minds, the Sisters strive to guide their students to develop a total commitment to Christ, and to enrich their personalities with the transcendentals as they are made manifest in human culture (The Teaching on Catholic Schools, 2). In their teaching, the Sisters, informed of a “significant element” of the Catholic educational project, should communicate a Catholic worldview, so as to “transform culture in light of the Gospel” and achieve “the integration of culture and faith and of faith with living” (Catholic Schools, 47cf; Gravissimum Educationis, 8).
In this regard, the St. Mary Sisters uphold and strive to promote the vision of Catholic education as essential to their charism of teaching, taking on the grand and eternal ambition that students become saints so as to stand in the City of God. The Sisters aim to make their students fit for freedom through the cultivation of virtue and the rich acquisition of knowledge, mental acuity, and eloquence, making them fit to engage more fully in their humanity, in life, and in society. In their particular disciplines, the Sisters cultivate an affection for the summum bonum, the highest good – the Good, the True, and the Beautiful.
